Feedback from Betty Caron

"Thanks so much for the trip down memory lane.  Not only did your book remind me of many of my childhood experiences, it also reflected the beauty of the Canadian Rockies and what it's like to be a back country park warden.  The book is well-written, humorous and a joy to read."

Feedback from Mark Hendricks

I just finished reading your book Blue Creek Bride and wanted to write and tell you that I very much enjoyed it.  I thought you might like to know what I liked about it, so I offer you a few comments.

First, I think your story is very personal and compelling.  You make yourself very transparent and are quite honest about your backcountry inadequacies and frustrations.  But that makes your story interesting for me and for anyone.  We can all relate to your feelings and easily identify with you.  At the same time, you take care to represent Phil admirably.  He comes across as patient, kindly and very professional – and I believe that to be true about him.

Second, I think your book serves the park warden profession well.  It documents in a very readable way the day-to-day life of a warden and the various skills and jobs he or she must perform.  In years to come, people will be able to read your book in order to learn what a backcountry warden did and what it was like for a family members who shared the life with him.

Third, I commend you for your narration and description skills.  The cabin conversations are hilarious and cast a very pleasant light on the simple pleasures of warden folk.  And your descriptions of mountain vistas and various flowers are nicely done.  I can tell that you have laboured at the writer’s skill of detailed and colorful description.

Fourth, a special appeal for me was to read about the region where you and Phil travelled and worked.  I fondly recall many of the places you describe so well in your book.  You make me want to return and hike the area again.

Just finished reading Blue Creek Bride....was a good read...very informative, very descriptive, & funny too!!! I just have one complaint that I'm sure you've heard numerous times but I just HAVE to say....sure wish the photos had been in color!!!! Your imagination can only stretch so far with all the different hues I know are in them (photos). Maybe it's just the artist in me but would have loved to see them in color!!! Anyway , it was a very interesting book & really enjoyed it!!! Had some idea of what you did but that was an eye-opener!!!!
